The contract for the project included 2 buildings. The 1200 sq. foot home plus a 30×60 shop. The shop project was also left unfinished by Eric Klein. My husband took over as GC, met with the county permitting office and realized why Eric was stalling on a final inspection. Eric was supposed to have an inspection BEFORE the concrete was poured. He didn’t. I’m not sure when he realized his mistake but thankfully I took a bunch of photos of the project and was able to show the Larimer County inspector the foundation was correct prior to pouring the concrete. This is the only thing that saved us and allowed Kevin to get the final Certificate of Occupancy on the shop.

Why haven’t we finished the house yet? We are out of money. Eric Klein took all but $50k of the original $681k contract and then stopped work. He also failed to pay contractors, so my husband and myself had to pay the contractors who were threatening liens on our home. That was much more than $50k. I’ll be sharing those payments in the section Unpaid Subcontractors soon.

Interior of a house under construction with exposed wood framing, roof trusses, OSB sheathing, windows, and unfinished floors.

This is the current status of the inside of the house as of 11-2-2026. Pictures of the outside of the house are on the About page. Eric Klein left the exterior of the house exposed last winter. The house was without a roof until March of this year and was painted in October of this year. That is the ONLY activity that was done in the year of 2026. We paid for the roof and the paint, not Eric. Eric and his wife Toni still have our money. As of today, the total is over 350k and nearing 400k.
